It’s like you’ve reached inside my head! Now it’s a bit warmer I’ve been meaning to use my electric wheelchair to get out a bit more but it’s hard (so many other things to use a tiny bit of energy on, dropped kerbs and pavement parking and the feeling of otherness), all of which you’ve captured here perfectly. But you’ve also described the benefits that come from it so well, I’m going to try to use this to take a leap of faith and get out there!
There is a reason 'snowbirds' flock to the south in the U.S. each winter. The cold makes everything harder. My elderly husband and parents say its like a physical assault when the cold hits their old bones. The joy of putting on a few less layers when its warm. That's freedom!
This bimbling has touched me so much Josie. You have taken me on a journey that I feel privileged to be able to share.I can’t wait for your new book,I always love seeing “Still Life” on the library shelf or in a bookstore
My mother was crippled with arthritis from age 32, my adult son is disabled from an accident. Both insisted on walking no matter how difficult or if only for a short distance. Walk to breath, see, witness their life - in life. Moving around outside - charging up. Keep going.
